And I revamped it for this week (that's the fun part -- rescheduling the workouts.) But the fact is, with six lower body workouts and four upper body workouts in five days, there is going to be some back-to-back lower body stuff.

As it turned out, I backed up the spin session with a swim on the schedule this week (twice), and that seems to work.Fishbelly Whitehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17176371532253849247noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6375073749732537117.post-19786058876566277942010-09-15T09:01:39.430-04:002010-09-15T09:01:39.430-04:00"Tuesday: Spinning; run"

Ha.

I too went on my first swim in actual Lake Ontario this week, and while it was mostly frolicking, not so much swimming I'm a little more comfortable with the idea. Up here (Port Hope and Cobourg) it is pretty shallow really far out, so I figure that's alright...unless they make us start really far so we have to swim in deep water? That won't make me too happy.

But, I was surprised, it wasn't too cold (making me question the necessity of the wet suit apart from additional buoyancy), clear and sandy bottom. Overall good experience.

Take time to really recover and you never know, you might feel stronger than ever in time for your race day.

I like to live by the motto, KSSA, kick some serious a**. It's taken me about three months, but I think I'm ready for it -- as long as I don't go into shock as soon as I hit the water.

Wetsuit is a good idea -- even without concealed flotation devices, I'm told they give you more buoyancy along with keeping you a little warmer. I still haven't managed to chuck myself in the lake. Fingers crossed, this weekend.

You can do this. Once you register, you kinda feel like you have to. Finishing, not having a panic attack in the water, not drowning are all my goals.

To help I have been practicing with my head out of the water (not ideal, but more comfortable for me) and I may have also been wearing a life jacket while out in the lake at the cottage. haha. I haven't decided. I have to make sure I don't die during the marathon.

If you are looking for a tri course, the Aurora Running Room is offering one starting June 5. You run/bike on Saturday and open swim on Sunday or vice versus depending on the weather.

I'm taking it because I have no idea how to change a tire - I'll be racing on Cinnamon Bun - a 12-year-old mountain bike - and I have an enormous fear of swimming in open water. Having paid $60 for someone to teach me how to swim in open water will make me get over that fear pretty quick.

BTW, I also didn't know how to swim before January when a friend dragged me to the local pool during lunch. She gave me a couple of pointers, but she gave up in frustration after a couple of days, so I muddled through on my own.

But it has come together by watching a bunch of ironmen whip me in the fast lane and having a coach beat me down once a month - $20 for 30 minutes. Can't beat that!

Love reading your journey!Snickershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02915958683012765632noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6375073749732537117.post-46889519784046817622010-05-10T11:43:31.742-04:002010-05-10T11:43:31.742-04:00Yep, it's me.
